Restart, scale and roll back

Whenever I'm sad, I stop being sad and scale up instead.

Every action is in the detail header and in the actions menu on each row. Each one asks you to confirm, and the list shows the cluster catching up live. When the API refuses (RBAC, an admission policy), the message you see is the server's own.

Restart a pod

Restart deletes the pod so its controller starts a fresh one. The confirmation tells you which case you are in:

  • the pod belongs to a controller, which will schedule a replacement;
  • the pod is standalone, so it will be gone for good.

Scale

Scale… sets the replica count of a Deployment, StatefulSet or ReplicaSet through its scale subresource. The rollout shows up in the list as it happens.

Delete

Delete… removes the object from the cluster. There is no undo. Barney does not delete nodes, namespaces or events, on purpose.

Roll back a Deployment

Rollout History… lists a Deployment's earlier revisions. Pick one and Roll Back to return to it.

Prod is a black-tie event. Dress accordingly.

Check the environment badge on the tab before you confirm. On a cluster named like production, the badge is red.
